1. Who We Are: Chaos Meter is an independently operated website. The operator of playchaosmeter.com is the data controller responsible for the personal data described in this policy and can be reached at contact@playchaosmeter.com.
2. Data We Collect: Chaos Meter does not require an account to play. Your player names, scores, and game progress stay only in your browser (local storage) and are never transmitted to us. The only personal data we receive is described in "Purchases & License Keys" below, plus the cookie and analytics data described in section 6. When you create a challenge link, the scenarios shown, the ratings you give and the names you enter are encoded directly into the link itself; this data is never sent to or stored on our servers.
3. Purchases & License Keys: If you buy an optional card pack, your email address and a unique license key are stored on our server (hosted on Cloudflare) so we can verify your purchase and let you unlock your packs on any device by entering your key. We also keep that email address so that we can send you your key again if you lose it — just write to us from the same address. Payments themselves are processed by a third-party payment provider; we do not receive or store your card details.
4. Why We Process Your Data: We process purchase and license data because it is necessary to deliver the digital content you bought and to provide ongoing access to it (performance of a contract). We use Google Analytics to understand how the site is used; for visitors in the EEA, the UK, and Switzerland this runs in a cookieless mode by default, and elsewhere it uses analytics cookies. You can opt out at any time as described in section 12.
5. How Long We Keep Your Data: Purchase records and license keys are kept for as long as your purchase remains valid, so that you can keep unlocking your packs on new devices and so that we can resend your key if you lose it. If you ask us to delete this data, we will do so as described in section 9. Analytics data is retained by Google according to its own retention settings.
6. Cookies We Use: This site uses cookies and similar local storage for: (a) Essential functionality — remembering your language, sound preference, and which cards you've already played; (b) Analytics — Google Analytics, to measure site traffic. We do not use advertising cookies.
7. Third-Party Vendors: We use Google Analytics, a service provided by Google, to measure how visitors use the site. Google processes this data on our behalf. You can learn more about how Google uses data at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.
8. International Data Transfers: We use service providers such as Cloudflare and Google, which may store or process data on servers located outside your country, including outside the European Economic Area. These providers rely on their own safeguards, such as Standard Contractual Clauses, for such transfers.
9. Your Privacy Rights: Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access the personal data we hold about you, to have it corrected, to have it deleted, to receive a copy of it, or to object to or restrict how we use it. To exercise any of these rights — including deletion of your email address and license record — simply email us at contact@playchaosmeter.com and we will handle your request. Please note that deleting your purchase record means we can no longer restore your card packs on a new device.
10. Legal Disclosure: We may disclose personal data where we are legally required to do so — for example, to comply with a court order, a lawful request from a government authority, or to protect our rights, safety, or property, or those of our users.
11. Security: We take reasonable technical measures to protect the data we hold, and data is transmitted over encrypted connections. However, no method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
12. Your Cookie Choices: For visitors in the EEA, the UK, and Switzerland, analytics runs without cookies by default, so no separate cookie prompt is shown. Anywhere else, you can opt out of Google Analytics by installing the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on, or by blocking or deleting cookies through your browser settings.
13. Children's Privacy: This site is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
